Bibb County Schools no longer on priority list
The Georgia Department of Education released the new lists of Priority and Focus Schools based on the state’s Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Flexibility Waiver renewal.
Ingram-Pye Elementary, Howard Middle, Miller Magnet Middle, and Weaver Middle are no longer identified as Priority or Focus Schools.
“We are proud of the efforts made by the principals and staff at Ingram-Pye, Howard, Miller and Weaver in their removal from the Priority and Focus lists. Over the past three years the District has worked diligently with the support of the Georgia Department of Education and Middle Georgia RESA to not only meet measures for the removal of the
designation, but to put structures in place to sustain the increase in student achievement,” said Sylvia Hooker, Assistant Superintendent for District Effectiveness and Special Programs. “Our Focus Schools on the new list will work intentionally on closing the achievement gap between the highest achieving subgroup or subgroups and the lowest-achieving subgroup or subgroups,” she said.
“These schools will receive professional development and support from Middle Georgia RESA and lessons learned from the schools recently removed from this designation. Priority Schools on the new list will have targeted assistance and professional development by teacher and leader effectiveness specialists from the GaDOE, district intervention specialists and school-based academic coaches who will concentrate their efforts in using the schools’ CCRPI data to drive the instructional focus to increase student achievement. It is a mammoth task, and we will diligently work over the next three years to accomplish it.”
Focus Schools are those among the lowest 10 percent of Title I schools in the state that have a subgroup or subgroups with low achievement.
Bibb County District schools identified as 2015 Focus Schools include: Brookdale Elementary School, Lane Elementary School, and Ballard-Hudson Middle School.
