Bibb County schools appoints new superintendent
Board members voted Thursday night to appoint Dr. Curtis Jones to the position, but not without some controversy.
It’s been two years since the Bibb Board of Education had a permanent superintendent. Dr. Romain Dallemand resigned in February of 2013. The district has seen three interim-superintendents since then.
Board members voted to appoint Dr. Jones as the next school superintendent. While everyone fully supports him, two board members said they weren’t happy with the process of filling the position. Ella Carter abstained from voting and Tom Hudson was the only one who voted against it.
“I believe he is going to be the best, but with the manner in which some things took place, I had personal problems with it,” explained Carter.
At the meeting, Hudson said he will support Jones, but did not agree with the process.
The board announced Jones was the only finalist for the position two weeks ago. He is currently the superintendent for the Griffin-Spalding County Board of Education.
The board will now finalize a contract for Jones and it will also have to approve it. Board members don’t have an exact time frame as to when that might happen.
