Bibb County School District Host Students Resource Fair

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) –  The Bibb County School District will host a transition resource fair for students with disabilities next Saturday.

The fair was created to connect students with disabilities, as well as their families, with the resources and opportunities available to them after high school. This will include various agencies and organizations that provide education and employment for individuals with disabilities.

Howard High School special education teacher, Charles Baima, believes this fair will benefit students for their future.

It allows parents, students with disabilities, their families, and the students themselves, an opportunity to investigate and learn about different agencies, and what they bring to the table to help their families out.”

Baima says high school goes by quickly, and he wants all students to be successful in life after graduation.

“We want to make sure that we prepare our students for life after high school, and having various agencies within our community that parents can use as resources to help their child, help their families prepare for that time makes a kid more well-rounded and prepared for when that day comes, and it does come quickly.”

Tracy Martin, mother of Howard High senior Julius Martin, says she’s grateful for the resource fair and everything it’s done for her son.

“We’re learning of different resources out there, different organizations, things like that than Julius can participate after graduation, which has been a concern of me and my family, of what are we going to do after he finishes school? So we would like to be able to possibly place him in a day support or a support employment program, which we do learn through these resource fairs.”

Martin believes continuing these events will help inform parents of the unknown.

“We as parents, as families, don’t know that’s offered for our children, and this gives us the opportunity, participating in these resource fairs, gives us the opportunity to be able to see what’s out there and just gain information.”

The resource fair is set for Saturday, March 8, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the district’s Professional Learning center, located at 2003 Riverside Drive.
