Bibb County School District welcomes 250 new teaches this school year

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The entire Bibb County School District received words of encouragement and a plan to keep the district moving forward.

About 3,000 employees of the Bibb County School District gathered at the Macon Coliseum to celebrate the common cause of helping students be successful.

“The school system is about the children and about taking them forward, leading them forward and showing them the direction that they should take so they can discover their gifts and talents,” says Bibb County School Board President Dr.Thelma Dillard.

This year’s theme for the convocation is “Victory in Progress Continues.” School members heard from Bibb County Schools Superintendent Dr.Curtis Jones Jr. and guest speaker Ken Williams, who is a former principal. The message was to know the importance of collaboration and investing in the students.

“We help our students demonstrate character and strength and make sure that they are college and career ready,” says Dr.Nancy Forde who works in Federal Programs and District Effectiveness.

“I love Dr.Jones’ VIP, Victory in Progress and talking about the culture of the system it being a performance based culture, I really like that. That resonated with me and as a parent I it excites me that my daughters go to school in Bibb County,” says Terry Harvin who is a father of two students who attend Howard High School.

The district also plans on strengthening the relationships between teachers and parents.

Superintendent Dr. Curtis Jones Jr. says, “We can educate students when they come to school but truthfully students respond to their parents more than they do teachers. So, it’s important that we have a true partnership with the student, parent as well as the community.”

As the school year progresses, administrators believe the clear vision and strategies put into place will prove to be effective.

Dr. Jones continues, “We have the ability to improve learning,it’s in the room, we just got to use it.”
