New Bibb County teachers welcomed at orientation ahead of school year
Bibb County Schools kicked off the year by welcoming incoming educators with support, encouragement and professional training.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County Schools started the new year Monday by welcoming incoming teachers and staff with an orientation session designed to prepare them for the classroom. Teachers learned about topics ranging from curriculum and classroom management to benefits and district expectations.
During a new teacher and employee orientation, Bibb County Superintendent Dr. Dan Sims welcomed the group of new educators. He says they will be a great addition to the district.
“There’s nothing better than improving the lives of students,” he said. “For these individuals to commit to Bibb County Schools and get into the work we do every day, I’m excited about it.”
Dr. Sims says it’s always great to get new energy, ideas and perspectives.
“To join seasoned eyes and seasoned perspective, it’s just gonna help us to re-stir the pot and create something even greater for our students, and we’re ready to do it,” he said.
Sarah Burzo, a teacher at Howard Middle School and the 2024–2025 Bibb County District Teacher of the Year, says becoming an educator is rewarding.
“So, for me just sitting here five years ago in their shoes and looking at their eager faces, and just being excited for a profession that really needs people to be excited for, it’s overwhelming, it’s just a blessing,” she said.
She says students aren’t looking for a perfect teacher.
“Students are really looking for someone to show up for them, their school is looking for you to be present, enjoy the moment and just work hard,” she said. “But ultimately you don’t have to be a perfect person.”
Burzo shares what being an educator means to her and how impactful it can be.
“We teach doctors, we teach nurses, lawyers,” she said. “We teach everybody we can. So, for me being a teacher it’s also me pulling up a seat at the table for anybody regardless of their background and who they are and just giving them that moment of somebody who cares.”
