Bibb County Neighborhoods Pay for Extra Protection

Bibb County neighborhoods, like Bentwood and Trebune, off of North Mumford Drive are now paying off-duty deputies for more patrolling.

“The deputy, he rides through every day and does his little patrol… it’s made a difference, it has helped,” says resident Mary Tiller.

The patrol began in early January after several cases of auto and home break-ins were reported in the area. Since then, Lieutenant Chip Wagner of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office has been patrolling the area. He says no further incidents have been reported.

“This is a good thing for the neighborhood because it puts deputies on the street where normally we’d be out answering calls, we may not be able to patrol these areas as often.”

Tiller says the extra money she pays per month to have the service in her area is well worth it.

“I think it’s piece of mind for a lot of people.”
