Bibb County voters weigh Public Service Commission races, $250M ESPLOST measure
Polling places in Bibb County are open until 7 p.m. as voters decide two statewide PSC races and whether to renew the one-percent education sales tax.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Voters in Bibb County are turning out Tuesday for a special election that could shape Georgia’s energy policy and the future of local schools.
On the ballot are two Public Service Commission (PSC) races. District 2 incumbent Tim Echols, a Republican, is seeking re-election, while District 3 incumbent Fitz Johnson, also a Republican, faces Democratic challenger Peter Hubbard. Both positions play a role in regulating utility rates and policies across the state.
Bibb County voters are also considering whether to renew a one-percent sales tax for education, known as the ESPLOST. If approved, the measure could raise up to $250 million over 20 consecutive quarters. Funds would be used for school safety improvements, technology upgrades, construction and renovation of school facilities, as well as the purchase of school buses and other capital equipment.
Polling places across the county will remain open until 7 p.m. Voters can locate their precinct by referring to their Bibb County precinct ID card or by visiting the State of Georgia’s My Voter Page at www.sos.georgia.gov/mvp.
Early voters and those arriving at polling locations in Macon Tuesday said it’s important to have their voices heard.
“It’s our chance to impact both local schools and statewide policies,” said one voter exiting a polling station.
Officials encourage all eligible voters to participate before the polls close Tuesday at 7 p.m.
