Bibb County Courthouse to be Renamed

MACON, Georgia (41 NBC/WMGT) — Bibb County commissioners discussed renaming the Bibb County Courthouse during Tuesday’s meeting.

Commissioner Joe Allen says he wants the courthouse to be renamed in honor of Senior Judge for the State Court of Bibb County, J. Taylor Phillips. Phillips served with the U.S. Marine Corps, earning a Purple Heart. He also served as a state representative and state senator before becoming a judge.

“It was just an honor to be able to nominate him and to have all five commissioners, we went together as a team today and everyone of us agreed what special place to have J. Taylor Phillips would be to have this courthouse named after him,” says Allen.

County policy says buildings can be named after someone if the honoree is at least 70-years-old or deceased.

Phillips is 90-years-old.
