Bibb County Commissioners Take Oath of Office
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The new year brought a new face to the Bibb County Board of Commissioners.
Recently elected Gary Bechtel, along with Chairman Sam Hart, Commissioners Joe Allen, Bert Bivins, and Lonzy Edwards all took an oath of office Wednesday at the Bibb County Courthouse. After the swearing-in ceremony, the commissioners conducted their first meeting for 2013.
They said the big task at hand will be tackling business in a short amount of time, before consolidation kicks in next year.
“We normally have a budget that starts in July, we’re now just going to have a budget for 6 months, we’re going to have a lot of contracts and things that cannot extend past January of 2014,” said Bechtel.
Bechtel served 12 years on the Bibb County School Board. He said he’s looking forward to learning a new form of government, from the four seasoned commissioners.
