Bibb County Commissioners Agree on SPLOST Project List

The list is $190 million long, but a unanimous vote by the Bibb County commissioners solidified that they want everything on the list.

The commissioners debated in Monday afternoon’s meeting about some of the projects on the list.

Commissioner Joe Allen voiced concern about funding $2.5 million to the Tubman Museum because it is currently a private, non-profit organization. He said he feels that if the county gets involved with one museum, then all the museums will want help.

Another hot topic among the commissioners was allocating $27 million to renovate the Bibb County Courthouse. That was the original proposal for that specific project, but the commissioners did come to an agreement that the county could better spend tax payer’s money elsewhere. They also agree

“We decided to wait for better economic times to build a new courthouse,” Chairman Sam Hart said.
