Bibb County budget cuts eliminate MTA raises
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) -There will not be any raises for Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority drivers, due to the upcoming budget cuts by the Macon-Bibb County Commissioners.
MTA’s general manager, Richard Jones says money to operate buses for para transit riders has been cut from more than $600,000 down to half of that amount.
Jones and his staff are now trying to find a way to make up for the $300,000 loss.
MTA transports nearly 30,000 para transit riders.
The massive budget cuts are also effecting the fixed route and the para transit bus drivers.
“We will have to spread those cuts across both budgets and in so doing probably eliminate raises we had hope to give our employees this year,” said jones.
The Macon-Bibb County Commissioners are scheduled to approve the county’s budget on Tuesday.
