Bibb County Board Of Education Passes 2012 Budget

In a unanimous vote, the Bibb County Board of Education accepted Dr. Romain Dallemand’s proposed budget for the 2012 fiscal year.

The board passed a budget of $296.4 million, which is a $5.2 million increase from the 2011 fiscal year.

Dr. Dallemand says, this year’s budget has taken a lot of work, and he believes people will be happy with the plan.

“We have been fiscally conservative, we have worked extremely hard to maximize our efficiencies,” Dallemand said. 

Some of the changes include:

• No employee furloughs
• Continuing the 176 day academic school year
• System and staffing reductions
• No salary increases

Dr. Dallemand says, having no teacher furlough days is what he is most proud of with this new budget.

“We have teachers, because of the furlough, where they had to get a second job. That means those teachers had less time for planning, less time to grade students’ work, and less time to prepare for classrooms,” Dallemand says.
