Bibb County prepares students for success at back-to-school bash
Local groups hand out supplies and support to ensure students are ready for the new school year

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County students will soon be heading back into the classroom, and the Bibb County School District wants to ensure they are properly prepared. At the district’s back-to-school bash, officials handed out supplies such as bookbags, paper, pencils, and other essentials to help students start the year successfully.
Piedmont Macon joins effort with health resources
Robin Parker, executive director of community development at Piedmont Macon, hosted a tent at the event to offer students much-needed supplies.
“Glue stick, hand sanitizer, and some information that will be useful—one is a website that has a lot of resources parents and students can use—and some information on the urgent care we have,” said Parker.
Parker said it’s all about helping children succeed.
“We want to support the children in our community to be the most successful they can be during the school year. And part of that is just having the basic needs to do what they need to do in school. So that’s how we feel we can be a part of supporting our community and our children,” she said.
Tackling period poverty in schools
Macon Periods Easier board member member Abby Noble and her team also participated in the event by setting up a tent to help eliminate period poverty.
“Our goal is to give anyone in the county that needs period products access to them. The main way we’re doing it today is by passing out wipes, liners, pads, and tampons. And we also help with the school nurses—we pass out to them as well,” Noble said.
She added that no student should miss school because they lack access to basic necessities.
“The main thing is people miss school when they’re on their period, if they don’t have adequate supply. So, we don’t want people to miss school just because of a period,” said Noble.
School year begins August 4
Bibb County students are scheduled to return to class on Monday, August 4.
