Bibb Co. Candidate Calls for Suspension of September Elections
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One commission candidate wants to suspend September elections, as problems continue to plague the polls in Bibb County.
On Tuesday, James Turner learned they were listed in District 7. Turner and his wife live on Dixon Road near Lizella in the District 6 area.
With the continued controversy, Macon-Bibb Commission District 3 candidate Elaine Lucas is calling on the Secretary of States Office to step in.
Last week, 41NBC reported that nearly 800 voters were registered in the wrong district,
and 17 of them already cast their ballots. Lucas blames the confusion on the entire consolidation bill. In her letter, she expresses that early elections have been rushed and the time constraints are now a major concern.
“We can resolve this, everybody can go back, step back, check the polls, make sure everybody’s
in place and have the election in November,” said Lucas.
The letter was sent to the Secretary of State’s Office and the Bibb County Board of Elections. We tried to speak with Board of Elections Supervisor Jeanetta Watson and were told she was not available for an interview at the time.
