Bibb Buys Old Church Property As New Park Home

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bloomfield Park in Macon is getting a brand new home, thanks to penny tax funds.

The former Gilead Baptist church on Rocky Creek Road is just a few hundred feet away from the current Bloomfield Park.

Officials plan on using the building and its property to be a one stop shop for recreation.

Macon – Bibb Parks and Rec Assistant Director Reginald Moore says the purchase will allow the community to connect in more ways than one.

“Now we’ll be able to, you know it has 20+ classrooms on that property so now we can look at maybe some educational opportunities, more of an opportunity for us to partner with the school system,” Moore said.

Moore says the idea to create a megacenter at parks throughout the city is not something he’s opposed to, but says funding would be the determining factor.

He thinks the trend of creating a central hub for recreation will be picked up nationally.
