Bibb BOE Vice President withdraws from runoff race

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Board of Education Vice President is dropping out of the upcoming runoff election to keep his seat.

Jason Downey sent an email to 41NBC Friday explaining he has decided to withdraw from seeking re-election “for professional reasons related to opportunities recently presented to [him].”

Downey also said he doesn’t believe a “nasty and antagonistic runoff for the District 6 seat, and the amount of resources from the community allocated toward the campaign and election, is a wise endeavor for [the] school system.”

Downey has served the district for the last three and a half years. He wants the school system to continue to improve graduation rates and prepare the county’s children to be the future workforce.
