Bibb BOE Receives Superintendent Search Update

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County School System is one step closer to finding its top dog.

Tuesday night, board members heard an update from the Georgia School Board Association on the Superintendent search.

The board hired the company to help them with the search last year.

GSBA presented the results from the community survey about qualifications for the superintendent.

About two thirds said it should be mandatory for the next superintendent to have experience as a principal in a school.

About 75 percent of respondents said it should be mandatory for the superintendent to have been a classroom instructor.

“We heard them loud and clear,” said board member Thelma Dillard. “And tonight, we went over some of their concerns, and our draft brochure to include some of the concerns of the public.”

The brochure the board drafted tonight will eventually be sent out to interested applicants.

It details the qualifications the successful applicant should possess, as well as information about the community in Bibb County.

The board didn’t make a decision tonight, saying it would look at the document again individually and decide whether or not to meet again by email.

If it does meet, it will be next Thursday, when members *hope to open the application to candidates.
