Bibb BOE Approves Tentative 2012 Budget

School systems around Middle Georgia have taken a hit the last couple of years.

Monday night the Bibb County Board of Education talked about what they have to work with, and how it should be spent.

The board did pass a tentative budget for 2012 totaling 296-million dollars. However, the general fund, which handles the operating costs, comes in at 178-million dollars.

After federal cuts and a lower tax digest, the board had to make some cuts district-wide.

The majority came in the form of staffing. A total of 84 positions are slated to get cut and 52 of those are teaching jobs. The reduction will save the district an estimated 4.4-million dollars, and will help stop employee furloughs.
