Bar age limit proposal

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon-Bibb Public Safety Committee proposed an ordinance that would make it illegal for anyone under 21 years old to not only enter a bar, but also stand outside of it.

This would not apply to restaurants.

“It would just be the bars that serve nothing but alcohol for consumption on the premises. I think eliminating those young people and taking them away from the alcohol..  it’s going to be safer for those other patrons that attend,” said Macon-Bibb Commissioner Scotty Shephard.

Shephard said he proposed the ordinance because multiple bar owners told him it’s the younger crowd that hangs out outside of their bars that causes the most problems.

The committee will hold a public hearing within the next few weeks to listen to the community’s input on this issue.
