Bancroft Walk-Off Caps No. 32 Bobcat Comeback, 6-5
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – An RBI single through the right side finished off a comeback for No. 32 Georgia College baseball (3-0) Sunday at John Kurtz Field, as the Bobcats upended King University (0-6) 6-5.
Tied 5-5 in the ninth, second baseman Seth Bancroft (Suwanee, Ga.) came up with the bases loaded and one out, taking an outside pitch through the right side to plate Jake Sandlin (Evans, Ga.) for a 6-5 win as the Bobcats stayed undefeated. Sandlin reached on a walk and took second on Taylor Hinshaw’s (Winder, Ga.) single. After an out, Mike McGraw (Newnan, Ga.) was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Bancroft.
The Bobcats trailed 5-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth, thanks in part to back-to-back home runs for the Tornado, from second baseman Joe Ganger and shortstop Justin Trent.
Back-to-back RBI doubles by Sandlin and Hinshaw made it 5-2 after four. It took until the sixth for the Bobcats to tie the game, as McGraw tagged a two-run home run to right center for his first hit in a Bobcat uniform. First baseman Clay Ardeeser (Loganville, Ga.) tied the game a few batters later with a single up the middle. The teams remained scoreless until the bottom of the ninth, setting the table for Bancroft’s heroics.
Hinshaw was 4-for-5 with an RBI, while shortstop Daniel Bick (Alpharetta, Ga.) was the only other multi-hit performer at 2-for-4 with a run.
Lefty reliever John Clark (Duluth, Ga.) picked up the win (1-0), tossing 2 1/3 scoreless innings with just two hits and a strikeout. Clark combined with Dallas Draviczki (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Micah Thompson (Tallapoosa, Ga.) for five scoreless innings, scattering three hits and three walks.
Righty Alex Martin (0-2) took the loss for King, throwing the final four innings. Trent finished 3-for-3 with a solo home run.
The Bobcats start 3-0 for the first time since 2004, when Georgia College began the season with a sweep of Barton College and a mid-week win over Emmanuel College for a 4-0 start.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Feb. 15 at 1 p.m., hosting No. 1 University of Tampa (6-0) in doubleheader action.
