Baldwin High School teacher arrested for inappropriate behavior with a student

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Baldwin County teacher is under arrest for having an inappropriate relationship with student.

David Cheek, 26, is behind bars at the Baldwin County jail without bond. Cheek is charged with sexual assault by persons with a supervisory or disciplinary authority over students.

He is the assistant band director at Baldwin high school.

Baldwin County Sheriff William Massee says the 16-year-old victim’s family and Baldwin High school officials reported the incident to investigators on Tuesday.

Detectives interviewed the victim and Cheek was taken into custody, Wednesday. This is his first offense, according to Sheriff Massee.

“A background check of criminal history is ran on all teachers,” he said. “This is the first incident that we can find whee he’s had any issues with the law.”

The sheriff said his office never had to search for Cheek.

“Strangley enough, he was at Baldwin High School resigning from his position when our captain of investigations, went to the school on another issue, to do an interview and found him there at the time,” said Sheriff Massee.

Sheriff Massee said Cheek is the single focus of their investigation. The sheriff said there are no other victims involved in this case.
