Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office First to Use Kia Patrol Cars
MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office is making car history.
The department is the first law enforcement agency in the nation to use a Kia as a patrol car. Last year, the sheriff’s office bought two Kia Optimas and outfiteed them with all the necessary equipment, like radios and scanners.
Cpt. Lynnette LaRocque says they didn’t realize they were making Kia history. She says they bought the cars because of their great warranty, gas mileage, and safety features.
“I’d like to think we’re pretty progressive. We might not be very big, but we want to get out there and try new things,” LaRocque said. “Since we have had them in service, we’ve noticed a large savings in gasoline. They get about double what our standard Crown Victoria’s get on the road.”
LaRocque says both cars were built in Georgia. She tells 41NBC Kia is showcasing the department by promoting their squad cars on its website. She hopes to add five more vehicles to the fleet this year.
