Baldwin Co. Undercover Narcotics Operation Busts Several Drug Dealers

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The streets in Baldwin county are a little safer all thanks to an undercover narcotics operation that led to several arrests.

It took an undercover deputy two months to work this case on the streets of Baldwin County. But it all came to an end Thursday afternoon when sheriff’s deputies served two warrants and arrested six people.

“[I] seen a lot of police officers,” Clara Womble said.

Womble lives off Coombs avenue across the street from a house where deputies believe people sold drugs.

“They were yelling, saying it was a bust and they had a warrant for him” Womble said.

Womble didn’t know anything illegal was going on at 128B Coombs Avenue until she saw deputies charge into the home and arrest suspected drug dealers. It was part of a two month long undercover narcotics operation that started in January. The operation focused on street level dealers in the West End housing project and the south side of Milledgeville.

“[The undercover deputy] purchased cocaine, marijuana, and pharmaceuticals from nine or 10 people in our community,” Baldwin County Sheriff Bill Massee said.

Deputies arrested Edward Brown, George Washington, Darryl Hood, Donald Wesley, Stacey Jones and Frederick Poole. Massee says almost all the suspects have prior run-ins with the law.

“The people that we arrested are very well known to us. One of which has been arrested 45 times, another 16 times,” Massee said. “Several of them had several prior drug arrests. It’s almost like we were arresting people we’re very familiar with.”

Deputies also have warrants out for Chadwick Canty and Antonia Spencer and they are also looking for two other suspected drug dealers. Massee says busts like this spark a community interest to clean the streets of crime.

“We’ve already started getting phone calls on information related to gang involvement to weapons in the community, other people selling narcotics,” Massee said. “When we do street level arrests, it gets the community helping us again. We work together with them, we work closely with them.”

Massee says it is that teamwork that will make Baldwin County safer.

The bust was a joint effort with Milledgeville police and the Ocmulgee Drug Task Force.
