Back to School Jamboree

 Law enforcement in Macon and Bibb County threw a big party for students, to celebrate the new school year.

The “Back to School Jamboree” was held Thursday at South Macon Park on Mead road.

Officers and deputies served hot dogs to the kids and talked to them about being productive citizens.

Lieutenant Chris Dunn of the sheriff’s office said his agency used the jamboree to build a partnership with the community.

Letitia Hughes said she was happy to see local law enforcement showing kids how much they care about their education.

“I’m a parent and I’m a single parent and a lot of times it’s hard, when you have two or one in school,” said Hughes. “Uniforms are constantly being worn down. You are constantly replacing them so it’s good to have help and support from the community especially.”

Along with the school supplies, officers and deputies handed out literature about youth crime prevention.

The students also had an opportunity to be finger printed and look inside police cars and a fire truck.
