Rep. Austin Scott applauds final passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act

Georgia congressman says tax bill delivers relief for families, farmers, and small businesses
Rep. Austin Scott

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- U.S. Representative Austin Scott (R-Ga.) voiced strong support for the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act after its final passage in the U.S. House of Representatives, describing the measure as a major win for Georgia taxpayers, small business owners, and farmers.

“The House of Representatives just sent the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act to President Trump’s desk with my support,” Scott said in a statement Wednesday. “This legislation delivers historic tax relief for workers, middle-class families, farmers, and small businesses.”

Scott highlights tax relief and business support

Scott said the bill prevents a 24% tax increase on the average Georgia taxpayer. The legislation also doubles small business expensing, which he said would allow local businesses to grow and hire more workers.

The bill includes new agricultural provisions, including the first reference price increases for farmers since 2014, offering what Scott described as “major relief for the American farmer.”

He also noted the bill’s impact on veterans and taxpayers, saying, “I am pleased that we were able to work quickly to ensure that Congress and President Trump can get much-needed relief to America’s farmers, veterans, and taxpayers.”

Scott further praised the bill for ending what he called “Democrats’ radical green handouts,” referring to repeals or reductions in green energy-related tax incentives.

The bill now awaits President Trump’s signature to become law.

Georgia Democrats respond to bill passing

Georgia Democrats warn the measure would cause significant harm to Georgia’s health care system, rural hospitals, and clean energy jobs.

According to the Democratic Party of Georgia, the legislation includes $900 billion in Medicaid cuts, which they say could result in 750,000 Georgians losing health coverage and further jeopardize the survival of rural hospitals across the state. Democrats also argue the plan threatens the state’s clean energy manufacturing sector, which has seen growth in recent years.

The Democratic Party of Georgia said it plans to highlight Republican support for the bill throughout the 2026 election cycle.

“The Republicans running for Senate have let every single Georgian know exactly where they stand on their list of priorities: dead last,” said Devon Cruz, a senior communications advisor for the party. “From now until next November, we will make sure that every Georgian knows that these candidates put delivering tax cuts for billionaires over protecting their affordable health care, supporting their rural hospitals, and standing up for their jobs and economy.”
