Atrium Health Navicent shares resources available for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

All Atrium Health Navicent mammography locations will host a Mammography Marathon from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on October 3.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Atrium Health Navicent Peyton Anderson Cancer Center is raising awareness about breast cancer by encouraging screening for early detection and treatment.

Chief of Surgical Oncology for Atrium Health Navicent and Medical Director for Atrium Health Navicent Peyton Anderson Cancer Center, Dr. Paul Dale, says women need to begin breast cancer screenings at 40-years-old. If women have a family history of breast cancer, it is important to talk to your primary care physician about screening before the age of 40.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), regular mammograms can lower the risk of dying from breast cancer.

All Atrium Health Navicent mammography locations will host a Mammography Marathon from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on October 3. Appointments are not needed and walk-ins are welcome to attend.

There will be door prizes and giveaways at the event. All locations will offer 3D mammography technology.

Dr. Dale says screening grants are available for uninsured and underinsured patients. Attendees can call 478-633-7020 to check grant eligibility.
