Atlanta man charged after assault, theft at Monroe County assisted living facility

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — An Atlanta man is facing multiple charges after deputies say he entered an assisted living facility early Friday morning, assaulted an employee and stole property before being taken into custody.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to River Place Assisted Living at approximately 2:30 a.m. June 19 after receiving a report of a male subject who entered the building and pushed a female employee into a corner before touching her inappropriately.

The sheriff’s office said the employee was able to break free, alert co-workers and call 911.

As the suspect was leaving the facility, deputies said he stole a laptop and charger.

Following a brief search, deputies located a suspect identified as 39-year-old Derrick Hablin of Atlanta.

Investigators also connected Hablin to thefts in the River Forest subdivision, according to the sheriff’s office.

Hablin was arrested and booked into the Monroe County Jail. He is charged with burglary, kidnapping, sexual battery, false imprisonment and identity fraud.

The sheriff’s office said Hablin is being held without bond.
