Arrest Warrant: Mother Accused of Lying About Where She Was Night Children Died in Fire

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The arrest warrant for Colethia Williams says the mother of four lied about her whereabouts the night her children died in a house fire.

Williams’ three children died in a house fire in late February. Her youngest child was injured during the fire, but survived.

The warrant says, in her initial interview, Williams told a detective that she was at the Seven Store on Napier Avenue on Mumford Road. That interview took place on February 24, 2013.

During a recorded interview at the Detective bureau, the warrant says Williams admitted she had lied in her original statement. In that interview she said she was at her boyfriend’s house located at 3590 Napier Avenue. She also lied about her boyfriend’s name.

The warrant also states that Williams left her children home unsupervised “long enough for a structure for fire to engulf the residence and cause excessive pain to all four children.”

Macon police arrested Williams Wednesday. She’s charged with three counts of felony murder, four counts of cruelty to children in the second degree, and one count of felony false statements.

Williams made her first appearance Thursday afternoon. When Bibb County Magistrate Judge Jane Reeves asked if she understood the charges brought against her, Williams shook her head and said “no”.

She’ll appear in court again on March 29th for a commitment hearing where an officer will explain the charges.
