Arrest Made in Death of Woman Found in the Ocmulgee River
JACKSONVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Florida man has been arrested in connection with the death of a woman found floating in the Ocmulgee River.
According to the Telfair County Sheriff’s Office, Joshua Lamar Helton, 25, of Plant City, Fla. has been arrested and charged in the death of 64-year-old Judy Larue Murrow of Tampa, Florida. He is currently being held at the Hillsborough County Jail.
According to the autopsy, Murrow was shot in the head. Telfair County Sheriff Chris Steverson, said Murrow and Helton were former neighbors and it’s believed he knew the victim and her family for some time.
Investigators from the Telfair County Sheriff’s Office, the Ben Hill County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation worked throughout the night to identify the victim.
Murrow’s body was discovered on Thursday near the Jacksonville landing in the Ocmulgee River. According to Steverson, investigators do not believe Murrow had any previous connection to Telfair County.
