Army IDs Slain Fort Stewart Soldier

FORT STEWART, Ga. (AP) – The Army says a slain Fort Stewart soldier found stabbed near his barracks might have been “the aggressor” in a domestic fight.

Fort Stewart officials Wednesday identified the slain soldier as 22-year-old Spc. Alante L. Whiting of Westland, Mich. He was an intelligence analyst who joined the Army in 2008.

The military has released few details about the Dec. 8 slaying.

Fort Stewart issued a news release Wednesday saying military investigators suspect that the stabbing might have resulted from “a domestic incident with Spc. Whiting as the aggressor.”

A delivery driver found Whiting bleeding from stab wounds near his barracks a week ago.

Fort Stewart spokesman Kevin Larson says no one has been arrested or charged in Whiting’s death, but says the military is still investigating.
