Arbor Day Trees Planted in Pleasant Hill Neighborhood

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Pleasant Hill Neighborhood Community Garden will soon begin blooming more than 30 new fruit and vegetable trees.

Thanks to a grant from Keep Georgia Beautiful and Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful, the community will now have greater access to fresh, locally grown food. The trees, which range from olive and pomegranate, to walnut and plum, will provide more food for those who live near the community garden.

For Pam Carswell, the Executive Director of Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful, winning the $2,000 grant and using it in the Pleasant Hill Neighborhood was a no-brainer.

“We hope to continue to grow the dream of this little community garden, and continue to be a resource to provide food for the Pleantant Hill Community,” Carswell said.

Students from Northeast High School helped plant the trees, and mayor Robert Reichert signed a proclamation in honor of Arbor Day.
