Another chance for showers and storms

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Because of the influence of a closed low aloft, we’ll start the week on the cooler and rainier side. This specific feature will set up shop atop the Southeast over

the course of the day, and portions of the area will initially by favorably placed within a dry slot that will help suppress convection along the Columbus to Athens corridor. The closed low will be situated over Georgia proper, serving to support diurnally-enhanced convection through the afternoon. Cold core systems (a low pressure system featuring a pool of cold air at its center)have the potential to locally increase chances for errant severe concerns, but current thinking is that anything more than an outside chance for an isolated strong storm should be precluded due to cooler

surface temperatures. Highs will remain in the mid 80s to lower 90s through tomorrow,  with overnight lows in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Our area is sandwiched between two high pressure systems with a cutoff low spinning over the region. This setup will support a general southwesterly flow and decent moisture. Expect mostly diurnal driven scattered to numerous thunderstorms favoring the north and east each day through Friday. While no widespread severe weather is expected, a few strong storms will be possible  during the period, with strong winds as the primary threat, in addition to locally flash flooding from high moisture content. Models remain in good agreement on this typical summertime  pattern persisting into next weekend. High temperatures will be suppressed slightly due to the increased afternoon cloud cover through the week ranging from the 80s to low 90s and increasing to the low to mid 90s into the upcoming weekend.
