Annual MLK march unites Macon-Bibb community at City Hall
Marchers gathered at four locations before uniting downtown for a rally honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The community gathered across Macon-Bibb County Monday morning for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. March, honoring Dr. King’s legacy through unity, reflection, and service.
Participants assembled at four locations throughout the county. From there, the groups made their way toward City Hall.
Attendees say the march serves as both a moment of reflection and a reminder that there’s still work to be done.
“This is an event that always reflects on where we’ve come from as a community, but it also highlights that there’s still progress that needs to be made,” said Demetrius Pagett, Assistant Managing Attorney at Forrest Johnson & Associates. “Whatever we can do even on a local level — those small impacts mean a lot.”
Participants emphasized that honoring Dr. King’s legacy requires more than words, and highlighted the importance of service and unity.
“It really is a day of service,” said Gloria Smith, CEO and therapist at the Southern Center for Choice Theory. “In honor of Dr. King’s legacy, it’s important that we not only think about how we can serve our community, but how we can be unified.”
Leaders from local organizations also reflected on Dr. King’s lasting influence.
Christopher Canady, President of the local chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, noted Dr. King’s lifelong connection to the fraternity.
“Dr. King was a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha. He remained involved,” Canady said. “It’s a good idea for us to uphold some of our aims, manly deeds, scholarship, and love for all mankind. This is just one way that we do that.”
Once marchers arrived at City Hall, a rally was held on the veranda in dedication to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
