Andrew Cook Execution Temporarily Halted

ATLANTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Georgia court of appeals has temporarily halted tomorrow’s execution of convicted killer Andrew Cook.

He’s one of two inmates that were scheduled to be executed this week, but last night, the other inmate, Warren Lee Hill, was given a last minute stay of execution. Both men are arguing the state is breaking the law by using Pentobarbitol–a drug that essentially euthanizes the inmate—they say using it is illegal without a prescription.

Yesterday, the board heard testimony from Cook’s family and friends, asking for a reduction of the sentence to life without parole. Today, the board denied Cook’s clemency request, but right now, the execution will not happen tomorrow at 7pm as previously scheduled.

He killed two Mercer students in cold blood 18 years ago at Lake Juliette.

Authorities say the murders were random and he didn’t know the people he killed.
