MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Andrea Cooke officially announced her candidacy Tuesday for the vacant District 5 Macon-Bibb County Commission seat, following Seth Clarke’s resignation to run for lieutenant governor.

A longtime District 5 resident, Cooke says her decision comes from a lifelong commitment to service and community. During her announcement, she highlighted years of experience working with families, small businesses, and community organizations, as well as collaborating with local, state and federal leaders.

“I love Macon,” she said. “I love everything about being in Macon, and why not do more to take care of the people who have taken care of me?”

Cooke also outlined two key priorities she plans to focus on if elected: housing stability and mental health.

She is the first candidate to announce for the District 5 seat. A special election will be required to fill the vacancy, but no date has been set.
