Andersson Signs Professional Contract with Falkenbergs FF

MACON, Georgia (MERCER ATHLETICS) – Sophomore midfielder Carl-Oscar Andersson has decided to leave the Mercer men’s soccer program to sign a professional contract with Falkenbergs FF as announced by head coach Brad Ruzzo on Thursday morning.

Andersson signed a two-year contract with Falkenbergs FF, who is a member of the Superettan, which is the second highest league in the Swedish football league system.

“This is a bittersweet moment for our program as Carl-Oscar was one of the best players in the A-Sun Conference, but we know the opportunity to play professional soccer is very rare,” Ruzzo said. “We will miss his talent as a soccer player, but we wish him nothing but the best with his future professional career. Our program is proud to have helped his development as a young professional and I know he will do great things with his new club.”

Andersson had a stellar two-year career with Mercer, serving as the leader of a Bears offense that has scored 56 goals over the past two seasons. The Falkenberg, Sweden native recorded 11 points on three goals and five assists this past season and was named an NSCAA Third Team All-Region selection to go along with an Atlantic Sun All-Conference second team nod.

For his career, Andersson appeared in 36 games for Mercer, including 35 starts, and amassed 19 points on four goals and 11 assists.

Ruzzo, the 2012 A-Sun Conference Coach of the Year, welcomes back seven starters from last year’s squad that went 11-7-2 overall and lost in the A-Sun Championship title game for the second time in the last four seasons.
