American Red Cross shares tips for National Preparedness Month

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The American Red Cross is sharing tips for National Preparedness Month and encouraging people to be weather aware.
Suzanne Lawler, regional communications manager, said people should be prepared for severe weather. She added that the region is in the middle of hurricane season.
Lawler encouraged people to have two kits: a go-kit and an stay-at-home kit. A “go-kit” should include three days of supplies that can be carried easily, along with backup batteries and chargers for devices such as cellphones, CPAP machines and wheelchairs. A “stay-at-home kit” should have at least two weeks of supplies since stores and pharmacies may be closed after severe weather.
The Red Cross also recommends gathering food, water and medicine, keeping a one-month supply of medication in a childproof container, and storing personal, financial and medical records in a safe place.
