American Red Cross hosts annual holiday blood drive

DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The American Red Cross hosted it’s annual holiday blood drive.

Blood donations are low during the holiday season. American Red Cross recruiter, Brian Fern, says he hopes donations will increase as people shop.

“Often times people have family activities that take them away from regular blood donation or they might be ill, but one thing that is important to remember is that illnesses or the need for blood does not take a holiday,” he adds.

One donor believes giving blood during the holiday season is a gift to those in need.

“It’s kind of like giving them a gift they don’t know they need yet,” Marcus Flury says.

To donate blood, donors will do a health screening process to make sure they’re health enough to donate.

All blood types are needed. To donate, you can log on to redcrossblood.org
