Alligator spotted on Vinson Highway near Fall Line Freeway in Baldwin County
Deputies and Georgia DNR responded to a surprise gator sighting

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Baldwin County deputies responded Thursday morning to a report of an alligator in the roadway on Vinson Highway near the Fall Line Freeway, according to a Facebook post from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies secured the scene and maintained a safe perimeter until the Georgia Department of Natural Resources arrived to remove the animal.
Drone images taken above the scene showed the alligator resting along the road, creating a brief traffic disruption. Authorities said there have been several recent reports of possible alligator sightings in nearby Lake Sinclair and the Oconee River. While uncommon, alligators can appear in new areas, especially during warmer seasons.
Officials reminded residents not to approach or feed wild alligators and to keep children and pets away from the animals. Feeding alligators is both dangerous and illegal in Georgia.
Anyone who spots an alligator is encouraged to contact the Georgia DNR for safe removal.
