Allergy Sufferers Beware, Pollen Counts Are Up in Middle Georgia

It’s the time of year again where the itchy, watery eyes seem to affect practically everyone in Middle Georgia.

According to Dr. David Plaxico of the Allergy and Asthma Clinic of Macon, people are just finishing up being sick with the cold and flu from winter, and now the allergies are affecting them.

The pollen counts have been unusually high this season, but the trees and flowers that produce the highest counts haven’t even hit their peak for producing pollen.

“Right now the cedars are kind of doing their thing…But the ones that will probably be a little bit worse as time goes on are the elm trees, the sweet gum trees, pine trees, oak trees, and pecan trees,” Plaxico explains. “They’ll sort of peak around Master’s time or around Easter. That’s when you’ll see the biggest, highest counts.”

Dr. Plaxico suggests wearing a mask if you suffer from allergies and must be outside. He also says getting tested to see exactly what you are allergic to will help you avoid those itchy, watery eyes.

He also says the pollen counts are typically higher in the morning, so try to avoid getting outside if you can to avoid allergy symptoms.
