Alabama defeats Georgia in national championship game

ATLANTA (41NBC/WMGT) – Alabama has won the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

The Crimson Tide beat Georgia 26-23 in overtime Monday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the school’s fifth title under coach Nick Saban.

Trailing 13-0 at halftime, Saban decided to make a change at quarterback. Freshman Tua Tagovailoa entered the game for struggling sophomore Jalen Hurts and threw three second half and overtime touchdowns, including a walk-off game winner.

The Tide had a chance to win it in regulation but missed a field goal as time expired. Georgia’s Rodrigo Blankenship made a field goal on Georgia’s possession to give the Bulldogs a 23-20 lead before Tagovailoa’s winning pass.
