Al Lucas Scholarship Fund gives students college scholarships
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Al Lucas Memorial Scholarship Fund keeps the legacy of the Macon native alive. It also helps students attend college. Seven high school seniors from Bibb County received $1,000 college scholarships Wednesday.
Students must be athletes with a minimum 2.5 GPA. They also need to have been accepted to a two- or four-year college.
“Receiving a scholarship that’s in memoriam to someone who was so important to our community and who gave back in such a way that he did, it means so much to me. It’s a great honor,” says Howard High recipient, Ian Roughen.
Roughen plans to attend Duke University and study statistical analysis. In the future, he hopes to create safer training techniques for sports teams.
This is the tenth year the Lucas Family has helped students achieve their goals.
Al Lucas died in 2005 while making a tackle during an arena football game.
