Afternoon Storms Cause Several Car Accidents in Bibb County

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Severe thunderstorms ripped through middle Georgia Sunday afternoon causing at least seven car accidents across Bibb County.

Our cameras caught the aftermath of a wreck that happened near exit 2 on I-16 West. An officer with dispatch says around 4-pm a tree fell on the car.

“We were coming up 16, in the middle of the rainstorm, a tree fell down on the road, my wife luckily swerved a little to the left and it fell on our car… I just remember seeing the tree hit the windshield. The tree bounced up and my wife pulled over to the side of the road. I was able to get out, we assessed the damage and called the police,” said Jason Katz.

Luckily, Katz and his wife walked away without a scratch.

It was one of several accidents between the 4 and 5 o’clock hour that happened up and down Interstates 16 and 75, from Sardis Church all the way up to Arkwright Road in north macon.

The dispatch officer says at least three people were injured in the accidents. There were no reports of fatalities.
