After School Tutoring And Daycare Program Become Mission of Warner Robins Woman

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/MGT) -Just as school is starting back up for the fall, Venetta Burks-Taylor, is starting up a personal mission of her own; offer one-on-one attention to kids, so as to give them the best possible advantages in life.

Burks-Taylor is a retired elementary school teacher of 20 years, and wanted to continue her work with kids, so she started up UTICA, Inc., a program aimed to help kids prepare for the C.R.C.T.

UTICA stands for Unique Tutoring and Individualized Children’s Academy. Burks-Taylor runs UTICA, as well as a daycare program, for low-income families from the same building.

Burks-Taylor’s mission is to more than just boost grades for children.

“We want to just encourage them, we want to boost their ego up,” Burks-Taylor explains.

Burks-Taylor’s son also got in on the action. He shipped in 32 computers, for free, so the kids have the chance to learn computer skills.

As part of the daycare program, Burks-Taylor teaches the children letters, numbers, colors, good manners, and respect. She starts it on day one, and never lets up.

“I knew they needed an avenue to be able to do those skills,” she says.
