Additional budget for Sunday voting approved

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb’s Operations and Finance Committee unanimously approved an ordinance to give 3-thousand dollars to The Board of Elections to implement Sunday voting.

But, this doesn’t mean voters can start heading to the polls on Sundays. That decision is up to the members of The Board of Elections.

Commissioners believe this is a great way to give people more time to vote. One even offered a plan to help increase voter turn out at the polls this year.

“What we would encourage pastors of churches to do is to mobilize their vans, and just get folks ready, take them to The Board of Elections. That’s the only way this thing is going to be successful,” said Commissioner Al Tillman.

The Board of Elections will meet at its office this Thursday at 4 p.m. to decide whether to add Sunday as another voting day.

If approved, the Macon-Bibb Board of Commissioners must then vote to allow spending 3-thousand dollars for Sunday voting.
