Activists Want Macon Mayor and Police Chief Fired

MACON, Georgia (41 NBC/WMGT) – Community activists had no problem voicing their issues with Macon’s major officials on Monday.

Activists Irving Martinez and Anthony Harris stood in front of city hall calling for Macon Mayor Robert Reichert, Macon Police Chief Mike Burns, Macon Police Officer Clayton Sutton, and Deputy Chief Mike Carswell to be fired.

Harris began the news conference calling Deputy Chief Carswell a “gopher and a little minion” to talk to the public when referring to the case involving the shooting death of Sammie Davis Jr.

Harris continued, calling Police Chief Mike Burns a “coward” and Officer Sutton “incompetent” when referring to the dash cam video released by the District Attorney where he claims Sutton stands back and doesn’t provide medical attention for Davis.

Martinez stressed to the public that it was time to get a grand jury involved. He says that Macon Mayor Robert Reichert has “failed as a mayor.” 

Martinez continued to say that the Macon Police department has “a lot of criminals in the police department that have a longer record than some of the people working in the LEC.”

Last week, a shooting review board ruled that Officer Clayton Sutton’s actions at the Kroger were justified.

Both activists said they will not stop and that on May 11 they will march from the Kroger where Davis was shot and killed to the front of city hall.
