Accused Monroe deputy killer to appear in court in July

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The man accused of shooting and killing a Monroe County sheriff’s deputy in 2014 will be in court next month.

Attorneys are trying to figure out if Christopher Calmer is mentally competent for a trial.

The district attorney says two dates are set for a evidentiary hearing on July 11th and 12th. A jury trial for Calmer’s competence is scheduled for July 25th in Upson County.

Calmer is accused of shooting deputies Michael Norris and Jeff Wilson while they were responding to a call.

Norris died from his injuries.
