A taste of Summer comes to end as rain arrives late Wednesday

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Possible patchy fog to start the day. Clouds will scatter again by midday. Southwest winds remain in place, with speeds of around 10 to 15 mph, with gusts

of around 20 to 25 mph possible. Pop-up convection is not expected today ahead of the frontal boundary that brings unsettled conditions to the region during the late night Wednesday into early Thursday morning. Daytime highs will be in the low 70s to near 90, continuing the trend of well above temperatures. The extended forecast gets a running start with a cold front impacting the area Thursday morning. Although some models are quick to push convection into Northwest Georgia late Wednesday the latest consensus evolves a little more slowly through the overnight to early Thursday period. The severe threat, although Marginal, is greatest over far northwest Georgia. In general, given the timing of the front through the area, anticipate an overall weakening trend as the line of storms moves from northwest to southeast through Thursday morning. Total rainfall amounts range from 0.5 to 1.0 inches. In the wake of the cold front, expect a brief return to more seasonal temperatures, with lows in the 30s and 40s and high in the 60s to low 70s on Friday. A gradual warm-up is expected through Sunday before the next system impacts the area early Monday.
