A heavy dose of rain today before dry weather returns for the forseeable future
Right off the bat, don’t worry a lick about severe weather: the vast majority of the precipitation will be rain. That’s it. There’s only a slight chance for storms in mostly southern counties in our viewing area.
Second, the rain estimates for the rest of the day are still high: it looks like a half an inch to 3/4s of an inch are still in the works for portions of our area. We won’t be able to beat our record rainfall of 7.46″ from last year, but we’ll end the month at close to 6″, which is still on the high end in Middle Georgia in April.
Less widespread rainfall is expected this afternoon, and then the sun returns tomorrow. A cold front moves through the area by Friday and drag highs down to the low 70s. Overnight lows will be in the 40s this week. Next week, winds shift to the south, bumping our highs up to the 80s and the lows to the 50s.
