New partnership gives discounts to tutors wanting to become teachers
AMPACT is working with Mercer University to help tutors continue their field of work in education.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Georgia tutoring organization is looking to help address the teacher shortage the state faces.
Since COVID-19, Dr. Shawonna Coleman with AMPACT says schools across the country have seen teachers leave the classroom.
AMPACT is a tutoring organization that puts tutors in schools across the state to help with reading and math. They’re looking to help fill vacancies in schools with a new partnership with Mercer University. The partnership allows AMPACT tutors to get discounted tuition to become teachers from Pre-K to 12th grade.
“Some have a background in education,” Coleman said. “Some may not have a background in education, but one thing that bridges the gap for the most of them is that they’re interested in a career in education, but they just don’t know where to start.”
Coleman says AMPACT tutors who attend Mercer to become teachers will get 25 percent off tuition per credit hour. Those looking to get into school administration will get 10percent off per credit hour.
